For Employers

The Mellon Humanities Internship Program (MHIP) supports a transformative, paid internship program for undergraduate majors in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. By providing essential support services, MHIP empowers students to gain practical experience, develop professional skills, and enhance their career prospects.

Why are paid internship opportunities important?

Unpaid or low-paid internships can often be a barrier for students, especially those from underrepresented groups. By providing paid internships and essential support services, this grant will empower students to gain practical experience, develop professional skills, and enhance their career prospects. By investing in paid internships and student support, the UofM is proactively bridging the gap between academic achievement and career readiness.

Host an Intern

Prospective partner organizations/employers must complete an Internship Site Approval form and submit an Internship Position Description form for review and approval. These forms ensure that the internship experience is meaningful for the student. They also provide us with the information needed to assist you in recruiting and hiring a highly qualified intern. In general, employers should submit these forms by the middle of the semester prior to the semester in which you wish to hire an intern. (For Summer/Fall: Early March; For Spring: Early October)
