Ellen Agyei successfully defended her thesis entitled, “The Impact of Childhood Adversities on
Prison Misconduct: A Study Based on General Strain Theory.” Her thesis chair was Dr.
Keith, and her committee included Dr. Burraston and Dr. Koo. |

Dr. Shelley Keith has been invited to join the Mississippi State Social Science Research Center (SSRC)'s
Research Fellows in recognition of her collaboration with the university's faculty
on scholarship and research partnership. Congratulations, Dr. Keith! |

Dr. Iratzoqui was on hand to support Operation Taking Back 901 at the Ridgecrest Health, Safety,
and Resource Fair! Dr. Iratzoqui is on the board of the organization, which looks
to provide youth and their families with education and economic opportunities. |

Mr. Andrew Senter was promoted to Associate Professor of Teaching, effective the 2025-26 academic year.

Dr. James McCutcheon and Mr. Andrew Senter, both department faculty, were recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences for
outstanding achievement. Dr. McCutcheon won an award for engaged scholarship based
on his applied work in the Memphis community. Mr. Senter won for his role as primary
academic advisor to our undergraduate students. Congratulations to both, and Go Tigers

Dr. Iratzoqui was recently awarded the 2025 Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Engaged
Scholarship given to only a few recipients each year at the University of Memphis.
The Excellence in Engaged Scholarship award recognizes faculty whose work represents
successful partnership with and has meaningful impact on community organizations and

Juan (Angie) Mei and Dr. Iratzoqui recently had a paper published in the ACJS Newsletter. Angie is a second year Masters
student and is expected to graduate in May 2025. ![]() |

Dr. Iratzoqui and Dr. McCutcheon were recently reunited with a former student, Maura Joyner, at the state Family Justice
Center conference. Ms. Joyner, who earned her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice
in 2020, is now working as the WRAP Haywood County Domestic Violence Response Specialist. Go Tigers! ![]() |

Madeline Stewart successfully defended her Masters thesis entitled "Assessing Relationship Type, Weapon Use, Weapon Type, and Injury in Sexual Assault
Kit Backlog Data." Dr. McCutcheon chaired her thesis, while Dr. Burraston and Dr. Iratzoqui also served
