Dr. Yu joined the Data Science Department in Fall 2025 after earning his PhD in Computing and Information Sciences from Rochester Institute of Technology. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China.
Dr. Yu’s research focuses on active learning, uncertainty-aware machine learning, and AI for science. His current interests center on developing label-efficient learning and validation methods for foundation models and physics-informed models. His research has been published in top-tier conferences and journals in the fields of machine learning and physics, such as NeurIPS, AAAI, ICML, and IOP:MLST.
