About Dr. Ruoxu Wang

Dr. Ruoxu Wang is an Associate Professor of Advertising in the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Memphis, where she has served since 2017. She earned her Ph.D. from Penn State University and holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from North Dakota State University.

Dr. Wang’s research focuses on media effects and persuasion in communication technology and strategic communication. Her scholarship has been published in top-tier journals, including Telematics and Informatics, Computers in Human Behavior, International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Social Media + Society, and Journal of Interactive Advertising. Her work has received funding from the Communities of Research Scholars Grant and CCFA Seed Grant at the University of Memphis.

Renowned for her contributions in research, teaching, and service, Dr. Wang has garnered numerous accolades. These include the 2021 CCFA Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research, the 2020 AEJMC Southeast Colloquium Top Paper Award, the 2019 AEJMC Mass Communication and Society Division Top Three Most Promising Professor Award, and the 2020 D. Mike Pennington Mentorship Award.

At the University of Memphis, Dr. Wang teaches a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Visual Media, Creative Strategy, Graphics for Strategic Media, Quantitative Research Methods, and Mass Communication Technology. She currently serves as the Vice Head for AEJMC’s Mass Communication and Society Division.
