Biography

David is currently an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics at the University of Memphis.

After 29 years, David retired as an executive from AutoZone in May 2024.  Highlights of his career at AutoZone include leading teams that designed and implemented a new store replenishment system, managed inventory levels of over $5 billion and 140 million store-SKU combinations, implemented new distribution center replenishment systems, designed and implemented more frequent deliveries to AutoZone stores, determined optimal locations for new distribution centers, and designed and implemented an automated store-to-store transfer process to reduce unproductive inventory.  David is a three-time recipient of the AutoZone Starters Club award, the company’s highest honor for those who have created a program or process that had a significant impact on AutoZone operations, growth, or development.

David serves his community in many ways.  He was recently elected to his fourth term on the Bartlett City Schools Board of Education, where he has served since the municipal district was founded in 2013 and is in his third term as the board chairman.  David served as Cubmaster and Scout Master for Troop 255 at Bartlett United Methodist Church for over 7 years.  David is an active Episcopalian and served multiple terms on the Vestry (board of directors), including roles as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, and Chairman of the Building Committee.

David is a graduate of Rhodes College and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis. David is married, is the father of two adult sons, and lives in Bartlett, Tennessee.
