Campus Safety & Security Enhancements
The University of Memphis Police Department (UMPD) continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. Several recent upgrades and initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to creating a secure campus environment:

  • Expanded Camera Coverage: As of July 2025, the University has made the decision to increase surveillance coverage by installing additional security cameras on the South Campus. This complements ongoing efforts to update and expand our camera network across all university grounds.
  • Tiger Patrol Program: Our Tiger Patrol initiative remains active and growing. The program is designed to ensure students and staff feel safe while on campus, particularly in parking lots and surrounding areas. Patrol visibility and engagement have increased as part of this effort.
  • Upgraded Dispatch Center: UMPD has completed a full renovation of our dispatch center. It is now equipped with top-of-the-line technology, enabling faster response times and improved communication capabilities.
  • K-9 Unit Addition: In February 2025, UMPD welcomed K-9 Pharaoh, a fully trained narcotics detection dog. Pharaoh plays a key role in assisting our officers in identifying and preventing illegal activity on campus.
  • Modern Equipment Deployment: Our department remains equipped with a range of modern tools to enhance campus safety. These include less-lethal tasers, drones, and officer-worn body cameras, all of which support responsible and effective policing practices.
UMPD is committed to transparency, innovation, and excellence in campus safety.
