TITLE TITLE TITLE, DEPARTMENT NAME

"Hi, I’m Kathleen Manning. I was born in Philadelphia, PA, lived in Boston, MA, and the Navajo Reservation in Northern AZ before moving to Memphis as a teenager. I graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in literature and composition and a master’s in English literature and Higher Education. Sometime in the future, I’ll return to college and complete a Ph.D. to teach literature on the college level.
I’m the proud mother of a college student who is a music performance major at Harding University. His main instrument is French horn, but plays six additional instruments, as well. If you ever ask me about my son, be prepared . . . I’ll go on and on . . . and on.
Discussing my hobbies and passions is difficult since there are many. My biggest passion is writing. I am a freelance writer and had a few of my collected works published. I’m an avid reader, with a book everywhere I go. I’m heavily into music and I grew up singing bluegrass and country but studied classical voice as an undergraduate at the UofM. I had the opportunity to sing with the opera chorus in the production of “Carmen” at the UofM, then began singing with the Opera Memphis Chorus in 1999. I sang with them for seven years. Sometimes I still get up on stage and sing back up with rock bands when I go to live gigs, which is another hobby of mine. I have so much fun going to live cover bands and taking photos of musicians and posting the photos to Facebook. Plus, the music is great. Also, I’m into sports and athletics and follow an exercise program of my own.
Please know I am honored to be working within the Air Force ROTC department. Prior to coming to AFROTC, I worked for the Dean’s Office in Communication and Fine Arts, Student Activities, School of Social Work, the Department of Public and Nonprofit Administration, the Center for Writing and Communication, and Undergraduate Admissions. I have 10 years of experience at the UofM. Everyone in AFROTC is kind and friendly and I am grateful to the cadre and cadets for making me feel at home."
